You're overlooking the moor from the ridge of Lee Moor Clay Pit which is at it's southern end. Dartmoor tends to depress me in an instant - and this probably shows in the picture. I know many people love this man-made landscape, but I prefer trees - I can't help it.

I lived for years facing Haytor from Kingsteignton, in the house with the swan stream at the foot of our garden.
I know what you mean - passing through Princeton in fog and rain...
Dartmoor, wild, beautiful, threatening, spare - simply amazing!
I agree - it looks a bit lonly. But it made for a great picture!
Hard to believe it was once a great forest - but so was most of Britain at one time. The emptiness of the place makes for very atmospheric shots though :)
I actually love that landscape, great shot too.
Have a week/ TYRA
This is the best one I have seen so far!! Liked the naked and the curves in the landscape so mutch. As it never ever ends :-)
I love Devon, but never taken to this place. Your words echo why. Desolate, haunting photography.
It is beautiful ... but I need the sea!
Another place to must visit, looks good in b/w...
Does look a lonely place......
What a beautiful place and I love the photograph.
Quite an interesting shot. I would have preferred the forest, too.
Great photo and, you're right, it does look quite desert-like. It's years since I visited Dartmoor but I don't remember it being so bleak. Maybe it looks different on a sunny day?
It's certainly wouldn't be easy to build a tree house here!
desolate and brooding ambiance
Hauntingly lovely
